I write software that has to think fast.

Computer Science and Mathematics student at Michigan State University and lead software developer at North Peak Leads. I build chess engines, a raycasting 3D renderer in C++, and control code for competition robots.

Projects

Chess engine

A chess GUI and engine I designed and wrote from scratch in Python. It handles every move in the standard rule book and plays at about 1500 Elo at its maximum depth of 5. I rewrote the engine in C++ using bitboards to search several plies deeper in the same time.

  • Alpha-beta pruning and quiescence search
  • Roughly 1500 Elo at maximum depth 5
  • Bitboard move generation, verified with perft
  • UCI protocol, playable here in the browser via WebAssembly
  • wxWidgets desktop GUI with a background search thread

Experience

July 2026 – present
Lead Software Developer, North Peak Leads, Grand Rapids, MI. Built a client intake website that gathers information to generate quotes and follow-ups, backed by a SQL database I built from scratch to track clients, appointments, and other key records.
May 2022 – Aug 2024
Lead Programmer, FRC Team 3357, Grand Rapids, MI. Led the team's programming to multiple world championship wins, taught new students C++ and our problem-solving process, and used Git so several students could work on the codebase at once.

Skills

Python, C++, Java, C, SQL, Git, wxWidgets, Visual Paradigm, Unix/Linux, UML design, codebase management

Education

Expected May 2028
B.S. Computer Science and B.A. Mathematics, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI.
